A rom/com about a rocky marriage between a young couple directed by Dan Levy Dagerman (“Single Mother By Choice”/”The Best People”) and written by his wife and the film’s star Selina Ringel.
After 10 years of marriage, the Indian American Ash (Ritesh Rajan) and the Mexican American Mags (Selina Ringel), have their first child and become stressed-out. Ash is trying to get into the weed business with the help of his father (Gerry Bednob), while Mags supports the family by partnering with her dad (Hernan Mendoza) in a private equity firm. Their marriage has hit a low-point. Both parties have no answers on how to make it work. So to relax and try to work out their marital problems, they leave the baby at their L.A. home with a baby sitter and decide to go on a Mexican vacation to a resort in Puerto Vallarta. But things only get more argumentative for them while there.
When Mags goes to the beach by herself she meets the liberated and attractive yoga instructor Angela (Sydney Park) and they hit it off, as a sexual attraction develops between the ladies. Ash meets Angela when dining in a restaurant with his wife, and pines for a three-way sexual romp.
The lushly filmed but rather tame sex farce was mostly off-putting. It’s the kind of innocuous rom/com that might even make the more conventional mainstream ones look more daring in comparison. Though at times it was perceptive and seemed like it could work fine if it just did this instead of doing that.
