The original animated Predator film began in 1987. In the 2025 sequel we follow the Predator fights of three warriors through different historical times.
In the first chapter: “The Shield,” the Viking clan-leader Ursa (voice-Lindsay LaVanchy) in 841 kills Chief Zoran (voice-Andrew Morgado) in payback for killing her father and then faces the Predators. In the second chapter: “The Sword,” one of the two Samurai brothers Kenji and Kiyoshi (voices-Louis Ozawa) in the feudal Japan of 1609 will be the new warlord after the death of their father and have to face the Predators. In the third chapter: “The Bullet,” an American, Rick Gonzalez (voice-John Torres), is a grounded Naval pilot in the North Atlantic during WWII who can’t resist returning to the skies to see if he can find out what’s bugging him. It turns out he must get into dogfights with the Predators.
Co-directors Dan Trachtenberg (“Cloverfield Lane”/”Prey”) and Joshua Wassung bring to life the adult animated science fiction action horror anthology film. It’s based on the story by Trachtenberg and Micho Robert Rutare.
The lively fight sequences work for the sci-fi film, while its cheesy story fails to either excite or turn me off.
It played at the Tribeca Film Festival.
