David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows”/”Under The Silver Lake”) directs and writes this inventive but loopy 1980s throwback dinosaur action pic that failed to catch my interest.

It’s set in 1982, in a suburban Michigan middle-class community. The Platt family consists of Denise (Anne Hathaway), a wannabe novelist, hubby Greg (Ewen McGregor), a pizza delivery man, their two teenagers, Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery), and a family dog named Starbuck. Their marriage is coming apart.

That night, while quarreling, they alarmingly witness an extremely bright light, an earthquake and a wormhole.

The next morning many dinosaurs inexplicably appear in their yard and throughout their Oak St neighborhood, bringing the prehistoric era to modern times. The Platts try to survive this violent summertime onslaught.

The surreal setting was hard to believe.
