A great behind the scenes rock documentary on the creative process. It’s directed in a no-nonsense and rambling homage manner by Sam Jones(“Boomerang”/”I am Trying to Break Your Heart”). The musicians display no egos, work hard and find ways for each to make Dylan’s timeless unfinished songs theirs.
A group of musicians that have not played together as a band gather together to create songs based on the newly discovered lyrics from when the 27-year-old Dylan was recovering in 1967 from a motorcycle accident and lived mysteriously in the Woodstock, NY area. Music producer T-Bone Burnett brings Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, Taylor Goldsmith, Jim James, and Marcus Mumford together in a dramatic two-week studio session at Capitol Studios. This piece beautifully plays off the legendary 1975 album The Basement Tapes byBob Dylan and The Band.
