French New Wave director Pierre Kast(“Morte Saison des Amours“/”The Suns of Easter Island”/”Strange Game”) helms this whimsical comedy/sci fi/fantasy film. It’s based on the 1918 short story “The Diminishing Draft” by Waldemar Kaempfert, and is written by Franco Roche.
Professor Jerome (Jean Marais) is the mad science researcher working on experiments on suspended animation. By accident his pet dog drinks some of the experimental solution when it spills and is reduced to the size of a 3-inch statue. The professor immerses the dog in salt water and its size is restored. The same magic potion shrinks his mistress lab assistant Monette (Agnes Laurent) to the same size, who then hides in his pocket to avoid being spotted by his jealous wife Edith (Geneviève Page) who is banging on the locked lab door for entry.
The gimmicky film makes for a harmless but amusing film.
