Director Steve Pink (“The Wheel”/”Hot Tub Time Machine”) chronicles the tale of the former conservative Republican congressman from the Midwest, Adam Kinzinger, who after becoming anti-Trump quits the Republican Party. He put the country first by turning against the insurrectionist Trump.
The film’s interview with Kinzinger shows how divisive the country has become and how he paid the price in his career for not selling his soul to the Devil. Kinzinger reflects on Trump not recognizing the process of American democracy by refusing to concede defeat in his run for the presidency in 2020 even after it was determined by the official tallies that he was the loser. It also shows how Trump initiated the violent MAGA coup in the WH on Jan. 6 to overthrow the government.
It’s a solid documentary about doing the right thing politically and of Kinzinger not giving his blind loyalty to a party that’s become a dangerous cult.
It played at the Toronto International Film Festival.
