“Engrossing documentary.”

Marq Evans (“Claydream”/”The Diamond King”) directs this engrossing documentary, filmed as a crime story. It’s based on the short folklore “Patterson-Gimlin film” made in Yakima, Washington, in 1967, about the creature Big Foot (Sasquatch creature). Evans returns to that location over 50 years later and confronts Clint, the son of the dead Roger Patterson, a former rodeo cowboy, and his 90-year-old co-director Gimlin, as he investigates what’s the truth about the myth. The original filmmakers strongly believed they found the existence of the great cryptid in the Six River National Forest in Northern California.
Evans tells us how a Big Foot industry grew out of that footage, taking us to the cowboy town where it was filmed. Gimlin still believes the creature was real, while Bob Heironimus, Gimlin’s neighbor and actor in the film, claims he wore a creature suit.
The 2004 Greg Long’s book on the Making of Bigfoot raised further questions about the folklore tale.
Both the believers and skeptics were taken seriously, even as fresh evidence was given.
The believers and non-believers make their strong cases, as the film uses archival footage and interviews to come up with an intriguing mystery story that tries to be fair to everyone and give us a plausible answer to the mystery.
If you’re into the Big Foot mystery, this is the film for you. Others might not like it as much.
