London-born stage director Marianne Elliott in her film debut co-writes with Rebecca Lenkiewicz a grim but watchable adult drama based on the best-selling memoir by Raynor Winn. Nature is viewed as an answer to solving man-made problems.

The middle-aged, middle-class, Brit couple of Raynor Winn (Jason Isaacs) and Moth Winn (Gillian Anderson), whose children attend the university, find they’re broke when evicted from their working farm. The homeless couple decide to hike through the 630-mile National Trail along England’s Southwest coast-from Somerset to Dorset, and live in a tent.

Through flashbacks we discover Moth has been diagnosed with a serious brain illness.

A happy ending results because Raynor’s non-fiction book about the couple’s adventure becomes a best-seller.

The photography is gorgeous, the acting is fine and the pic is affecting.
