“Another JLo rom/com bomb.”
Reviewed by Dennis Schwartz
Brit filmmaker Ol Parker (“Ticket to Paradise”/”Imagine Me and You”) directs another JLo rom/com bomb. Writers Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly say it was made specifically for her. Adding to the woes for the lightweight corporate comedy are the misplaced raunchy dick jokes and clunky dialogue.
The unmarried Jackie Cruz (Jennifer Lopez) is the high-powered CEO of Air Cruz, an airline based in New Jersey she inherited from her influential board member father (Edward James Olmos). The airline keeps a strict anti-fraternization policy for the employees.
When the handsome lawyer Daniel Blanchflower (Brett Goldstein) gets hired to handle a lawsuit from a rival company, after the regular lawyer (Bradley Whitford) has a medical problem over a burrito, Jackie shows a romantic interest in him.
The problem is the lovers have no chemistry together, the dated story is not only dumb and awkwardly executed but it’s not funny except for a few one-liners.
There’s also a cringe-worthy scene when Jackie and her lover boy deliver the baby of Jackie’s assistant (Betty Gilpin) while aboard her private plane.
I could of have used a barf bag to get through it.
